Bloc.

Retail Pop-Up

Area 1,000 sq. ft.

Status Complete // August 2025

As the name suggests, The Bloc was conceived as a monolithic mass, carefully carved to house Flamingo Veneers’ 2025 collection. The design emerged from detailed studies of circulation and user movement across the large site, shaping how visitors would approach, perceive, and move through the space. These studies helped identify key surfaces and pockets where the product could be experienced most effectively.

Developed from a rectangular base, the form features an off-centre roof ridge that balances scale and volume. Where visitors were encouraged to pause, the mass descends to a human scale, while conversation zones are marked by a lifted ridge, creating a heightened spatial experience. Openings along the edges allow light to enter, while angled punctures align with circulation paths to frame curated views. The longer side of the booth was opened to invite entry, while the shorter edge added definition and drama. A bold black exterior and an iconic floating veneer-clad table ensured strong visibility from afar.

Inside, surfaces subtly guide movement along a central spine that divides the booth into distinct zones. A pink mixed-media installation projects a live feed from the Flamingo factory, introducing storytelling and process. The journey progresses through marquetry, natural and solid veneers, printed and embossed finishes, and culminates in a coffee station and stepped seating crafted in teak ply, softened with greenery.

Rooted in function and user experience, The Bloc transforms veneer display into an immersive narrative celebrating material, craft, and innovation.
